Transformative Benefits of Summit Climbing’s OBC Program
Peter Moyes first reached out to us in 2019, hoping to introduce their classes to rock climbing through one-off excursions. The school was looking for a space to get their students out of the classroom and work on different skill sets. While these initial sessions were a fun day out for staff and students, after chatting with their head of sport, our instructor, Jordan, realised these sessions could be much more. Jordan had an inkling that our Outcomes Based Course (OBC) – an instructor-led, multi-week climbing course with a structured curriculum – would be the perfect fit.Â
The OBC program provides a clear pathway for skill development and growth. With the help of our custom curriculum and workbook, students mastered basic rock climbing skills and techniques. By focusing on measurable student progress, each climber could feel and see their personal growth, boosting their confidence and motivation. As a result, Peter Moyes continues to book multiple classes into the OBC program, going into their 5th year climbing with us.Â
Convenience and Collaboration: The Benefits of Partnering with Summit Climbing
We went above only teaching the students to climb. As Peter Moyes is located 30 minutes away from our gym, we had to come up with a creative solution to maximise the student’s climbing time. We worked with teachers to decide what elements could be taught in the classroom and added additional sessions. This collaborative problem-solving was a joint effort between our instructors and Peter Moyes teachers that would not have been possible without the effective communication of both parties.Â
Empowering Growth: Unleashing Student Potential with Summit Climbing Programs
The outcomes of Peter Moyes’ engagement with us have proven to be remarkable. The OBC program has helped the students build their confidence and develop their climbing skills. Climbing is a great opportunity for students not only to discover a new passion but work on their problem-solving and social skills. The teachers have seen the tangible growth and development of their students, both in skill and confidence.
To build on this success, Peter Moyes has enrolled in Summit’s advanced School Lead Climbing program, allowing returning classes to dive into more advanced climbing techniques and challenges. Peter Moyes’ positive experience with Summit Climbing resulted in their staff referring us to other teachers within their Outdoor Education networks. The school plans to continue their engagement with us, with plans to book classes for future courses in 2024.
By providing the school with a flexible solution to their challenges and an environment for their students to challenge themselves, we enabled the students of Peter Moyes’ to challenge themselves to reach their peak and enjoy the thrill of climbing while continuously improving their skills.
